Charming series from the makers of the Victorian Kitchen Garden that mixes what is essentially filmed living history with more standard documentary techniques to show what life was like for average people in the English country-side during WWII. As the title suggests, the focus is on food, both how it was cooked and how it was grown, and what people did to cope with the rationing and increasing shortages as the war progressed. The stars of the series, Ruth Mott and Harry Dodson are not actors playing parts, they are just real people recreating for the cameras in 1993 what they did for real between 1939-1945.

This series has never been released on vhs or dvd. All 8 episodes, each approximately 25 minutes long, are on two dvds. For a bonus, I'm including a third dvd with two other documentaries about food in WWII Britain: Supersizers Go...Wartime and Ration Book Britain.
